Learning Outcomes

  • DEMONSTRATE proficiency in music theory, analysis, and various musical styles.
  • DEVELOP technical and expressive skills in vocal, orchestral, or jazz performance.
  • LEAD and CONDUCT choral and instrumental ensembles effectively.
  • UNDERSTAND the social and cultural contexts of music, including diverse and non-Western traditions.
  • ENHANCE creativity and improvisation in performance. The Music Program integrates this PLO through intentional design across applied lessons, ensemble experiences, course offerings, and performance-based assessments that prioritize originality, expressivity, and improvisational skill.
  • APPLY musical skills in real-world settings through internships and the Senior Capstone.
  • USE music to foster inclusivity and engage with diverse communities.

Music SSTE Credential Pathway

This major has an integrated Single Subject Teacher Education (SSTE) pathway to prepare future middle and high school classroom teachers. The integrated program of study enables students to graduate with their BAs and a CA teaching credential in 4 years.
