Music, BA


The BA in Music offers a dynamic and inclusive curriculum that broadens students’ understanding of music across diverse traditions and contemporary perspectives. Emphasizing both performance and pedagogy, the program develops technical proficiency, leadership skills, and cultural awareness through an innovative blend of coursework, ensembles, and private instruction.

  • DEMONSTRATE proficiency in music theory, analysis, and various musical styles.
  • DEVELOP technical and expressive skills in vocal, orchestral, or jazz performance.
  • LEAD and CONDUCT choral and instrumental ensembles effectively.
  • UNDERSTAND the social and cultural contexts of music, including diverse and non-Western traditions.
  • ENHANCE creativity and improvisation in performance. The Music Program integrates this PLO through intentional design across applied lessons, ensemble experiences, course offerings, and performance-based assessments that prioritize originality, expressivity, and improvisational skill.
  • APPLY musical skills in real-world settings through internships and the Senior Capstone.
  • USE music to foster inclusivity and engage with diverse communities.
