ART 355 - Experimental Film/Video Upper Division
Prerequisites Take any of the following courses: ART 106 , ART 101 , ART 104 , ART 155 , ART 301 , ART 304 , ART 375 , COMM 325 , MP 302 , MP 301
This upper-division course engages students in a comprehensive study of experimental film and video production. Students’ projects will explore a variety of nonlinear modes of film/video production using digital and traditional tools. Students will gain technical skills before moving on to create their own films with a focus on stop-frame and digital animation, including 3-D tools.
Both Film Analysis and Hands-on production work in experimental film production, both digital and analog, will form the foundation of this course. Assignments, lectures, and discussions will explore the aesthetics of editing, montage theory, animation, video & film art.
Readings and representative examples from the rich history of experimental film and video will help you contextualize students’ work.
