The minor in East Asian Studies gives students language skills and cultural competencies for traveling and working in East Asia.

Lower Division

The following lower-division courses are required for the minor. JAPAN 101 and 102 are prerequisites for JAPAN 201 unless a student places directly into JAPAN 201 or higher.

Conversation/Culture

The completion of one language and one culture course from the selection below fulfills this requirement. If a student takes 306 or 307 a second time (or takes it after taking 106 or 107), then the second instance can count toward the Upper Division requirement.

One unit of conversation is required, courses may be repeated.
JAPAN 106 - Basic Conversation
JAPAN 306 - Intermediate/Advanced Japanese Conversation
One unit of culture is required, courses may be repeated
JAPAN 107 - Introduction to Japanese Culture
JAPAN 307 - Advanced Culture

Upper Division

Take at least 7 units from the following. The capstone course is not required, but recommended. Courses from allied fields may be counted towards these requirements by petition.
