In small, discussion-based classes led by a faculty of accomplished scholars and writers, Saint Mary’s English majors study the rich and diverse literature of the English-speaking cultures of the world.
Coursework will include the following specific requirements:

Foundations
Students are required to complete ENGL 100 and 200 as foundational courses. Literature before 1800
Students will complete one course in Literature before 1800. Such courses include: Literature before 1900
Students will complete one course in Literature before 1900, including the option of a second course in Literature before 1800. Such courses include: Critical and Literary Theory
Students will complete two courses in Critical and Literary Theory. Such courses include: Arts of Writing
Students will complete one course in Arts of Writing. Such courses include: Capstone
Students will complete a Capstone project in English. Topics in Literary Studies
Students will take an additional three English courses. Each course must be at least 3 units. One of these courses may be fulfilled by a 100- or 200-level ENGL course, a 300- or 400-level WRIT course, or a CW course of any level. |
