Noise

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Student Handbook

The primary purpose of noise and quiet hour regulations is to create residence hall environments that promote rather than detract from effective study. Residents are expected to adhere to quiet hours and noise level standards, and be considerate of others’ rights to sleep and study, regardless of the time of day. Quiet hours are in effect from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from midnight to 8:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday. These hours may be lengthened to meet the needs of an individual floor. During quiet hours, noise from speakers, stereos, radios, TVs, voices or any other identifiable source should not be heard outside of or between any residence hall rooms. Twenty-four (24) hour quiet hours begin the Friday before the first final exam of each semester through the close of the residence halls. All other hours are courtesy hours in that students should comply if a staff member or another student asks for quiet.
