The major requires 12 courses. Five (5) are core courses in Women’s and Gender Studies; seven (7) are electives from the list of approved courses of Women’s and Gender Studies. Majors must take at least two courses each from social sciences and humanities. Additionally, majors must take at least one course on women or gender from transnational perspectives or ethnically and racially diverse U.S. communities. One January Term course whose topic is women, gender, or sexuality may be petitioned for WaGS credit. Women’s and Gender Studies students may also design a double or split major with another discipline, with the approval of the director of Women’s and Gender Studies and the chair of the other department.
