COUN 611 - Law, Ethics, & Values This course investigates legal, ethical, and values issues as they relate to counseling students in all specializations in the Counseling Department. The class is designed to teach a process of ethical decision-making and to increase awareness of the complexities in practice. The instructor must be familiar with major laws and ethical principles in the field of counseling in general, as outlined by the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics. Students will be exposed to specific laws related to their specializations (e.g., school counseling or school psychology, marriage and family therapy) in other courses. This course focuses on local, state, and national laws governing the general practice of professionals in the counseling field.
