COUN 605 - Issues in Intercultural Counseling & Social Justice This is a 3-unit graduate counseling course that is required for all SMC students earning a master’s degree in counseling across all counseling specializations in the COUN department. Intercultural Counseling and Social Justice is a three-unit course, designed to address the social and political context of counseling individuals, families, and groups with diverse identities and social locations. Other areas of investigation include the intersections of race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, and the impact of oppression. Intercultural communication patterns and multicultural counseling theory and practice are emphasized, along with the role of the counselor as an advocate, ally, and agent of social change.
