This course serves an introduction to the research methods utilized in exercise science, sport, and health. There are three main goals associated with the course. The first goal is to engage the students with the empirical literature and familiarize them with the research methodology used in kinesiology. Related to this, the second goal is to educate students about the various kinds of discipline-specific writing, which will serve as a means for demonstrating understanding of research, measurement, and dissemination of ideas in Kinesiology. Therefore, this course serves as the department’s “writing in the discipline” or WiD course. It is both writing-intensive and content-rich and uses writing to deepen the learning of disciplinary content. Finally, the third goal is to examine how the important variables in the field are measured, and how various tests in the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains are constructed/implemented effectively.
