Students become familiar with the ranges, functioning, and basic playing techniques of strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion, i.e. the standard instruments of the orchestra. They will acquire an understanding of the basic principles of blending, doubling, and highlighting, as well as comfort writing for transposing instruments.
